The space had formerly been used as three separate restaurants, but had sat vacant for two years. As Catalyst made plans to refine this diamond in the rough, they had one overriding vision: to create a harmonious space that was as artistic as it was functional.

Because the space was so unique, and because Catalyst had a vision of what their offices needed to be, they knew that they needed to work with professional interior designers who could work harmoniously with the architects who reconfigured the space.

“We didn’t just want furniture – we needed furnishings that complemented our facility,” explains Richard Gripp, Catalyst principle. “We are a design firm, so we need an office that reflects who we are and how we think". Catalyst's other principle, Ted Kucinsky agrees, "We need our offices to be Oz, not Kansas.”

Choosing furnishings that put design first meant two things for Gripp: Herman Miller and One Eleven Design. “We chose One Eleven Design because we agree that Herman Miller is clearly the premier furniture company when it comes to design. One Eleven Design has made Herman Miller their signature line because they know how essential design and aesthetics are to an environment,” explains Gripp. “That is crucial to us, because design is integral to what we are about. It makes the most sense to choose a manufacturer whose name is synonymous with design.”

Through One Eleven Design’s direction, Herman Miller’s uniquely artistic and yet fully functional pieces became the backbone for some extraordinary offices.

In addition, each office was designed so that employees could infuse their own personal style and build a space perfect for them – while keeping within the overall look of the office. This attention to design, functionality and personality spoke directly to Catalyst’s goals. It helped them craft an office that was cohesive, while allowing for many unique artistic touches within the over-riding vision.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the two offices of principals Richard Gripp and Ted Kucinsky. While both individual spaces blend harmoniously with the overall tone of the offices, each reflects the personality and work style of the occupant perfectly. This commitment to Catalyst’s needs created some of Fort Wayne’s finest office

space, with everything built on a master plan – harmoniously supporting the “look” of Catalyst.
“We are delighted,” adds Gripp. “Our furniture is the finishing touch to what we were trying to accomplish. Our offices really do help tell the story of who we are.”
